Another anime post. This time on Inuyashiki, a seinen(adult, graphic) anime about an older man being rebuilt after he is given a death sentence from his doctor. So seinen happens to be my favorite genre of anime but it is much harder to pull off than the much more common shounen or even shoujo due to the older age group it targets and giving adult themes weight through animation is no easy task. Great examples of recent seinen are psychopass and parasyte. Inuyashiki leans closer to pychopass in that… See More
the antagonist is the driving force for our protagonist. However unlike psychopass which used the mystery of the antagonist to build tension Inuyashiki does the opposite giving you his entire backstory. It shows his motivations, thoughts, and regrets. So rather than a face-off of good and evil is between two human beings(which adds a layer of irony as well) As for the overall quality of the show, the animation is well done and almost seamlessly intercut with cg, voice acting is top notch not surprising considering the producer is Mappa and the concept is fairly original. Hiroya Oku sticks to what he knows best, sci-fi and gore. While Inuyashiki might not compare to previous works like Gantz in terms of gore it makes up for it with greater suspense and deeper characters. Overall I wouldn't rank it among psychopass or parasyte just yet but when the main conflict comes to the forefront of the show, I have high expectations!
